Here we asked a local photographer Tansy Rollin to take film stills while we were filming the 'bath scene' from our production. We were keen for her to do this as we felt it would help us to capture the overall feel of the film, the lighting and position of camera as well as capturing the action as it occurs during filming and perhaps when looking back we could think of things to improve. Throughout these shots you can see quite clearly how we positioned our actress, Sarah Hill, in a bath in front of a window- we did this as we felt that the natural light would add a very human and non-mechanical feel to the lighting. The storyline tells us that Annabel is mentally challenged and so we wanted all the light and effects to be very natural so it is clear that it is all going on in Annabel's head. We also liked the idea of the bath and water as we took alot of inspiration for our film from Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, We like the idea of the female being in a personal place and any intrusion on these place feels almost like invasion/penetration. As well as this, her nudity in the bathroom is a timeless way to make the audience feel slightly uncomfortable and if males begin to enjoy watching her 'wash' herself, then they are filled with guilt and trauma in the moments when she is being attacked. We also wanted to film in this particular bathroom because, as you can see in a lot of the photos, the bathroom is in the process of being redecorated. We felt that this decrepit and messy setting could reflect the characters inner trauma, her personal place is being broken down as she tries to renew it. We also asked our target audience what some of their biggest fears were and at least 9 said 'Drowning' we wanted to incorporate this utter fear of being submerged in water into our project, we also felt that using water as a weapon eliminated modern weapons, water is something we need in our bodies to help us grow, using this type of natural element as a weapon felt like a good juxtaposition that we have seen used cleverly in other films, Hanna by Joe Wright for example.
