Location List-
Scene 1- Annabel in the Garden
- Filmed in the Gardens of Lee Abbey, Devon
For this scene, we chose to film in the grounds of Lee abbey, a conference centre in Devon, for various reasons. A main reason for this was because it is close to us, the child
actresses can get to the location easily and on demand when needed for possible
re-filming. As well as this, we chose to film in a Garden for this scene as a
Garden, large and spacious usually connotes safety and comfort; we wanted to contrast this with the narrative, as the Dad is so powerful and dominant in the Garden it almost connotes the breaking down of safety and comfort in the
character of Annabel.

Scene 2- Annabel in the Bathroom,Filmed on 11 St Brannocks pk Road,
Bathroom
For this scene, we chose to film in the Bathroom of our
actresses Sarah and Lucy Hill, as it was easily accessible for the actresses and
us the filmakers. As well as this, their bathroom is in the process of
being redecorated, the wallpaper is peeling of, the floor is just floorboards and the
entire bathroom is prodominatly bare- when scouting for locations we felt like
this was perfect as it connotes a sense of isolation and fear, the fact that
nothing about the room is homely or inviting for the mind. As well as this the
bath was a key instrument that we wanted to use, with space next to it for the
character of alice to sit by and with enough depth for the character of Annabel to be pushed under the water. To add to this, the bathroom is quite spacious, meaning that Annabel would look quite small and vulnerable against it in the
mise-en-scene, creating sympathy for the character from the audience.
These two locations, we felt, contrasted each other well as one scene is very natural, the Garden is full of life and colour wheras the bathroom is entirely man-made; we felt that this would excentuate the loneliness and loss of hope in Annabel. When she is young, the Garden represents her hope and her healthy childlike state, later the bathroom represents the loss of all these things. She has lost all hope and is stuck in a room with no warmth to it,looking vulnerable and lonely. We felt that these two locations would help
the progression of the narrative as it would show her progression through life and how she looses all comfort due to parental
neglection.
